ILSE BOUWENS - THE BIRD-LOVING BRAIN BEHIND HEEEJ!
Ilse grew up with cows in the backyard and birds in the trees. Later, city life made her realize how much we’ve drifted away from nature. So she decided to design her way back —with birdhouses and feeders that bring the outdoors a little closer, one happy bird at a time.

Happy Houses Birdhouse
Every bird will be happy with this fantastic Happy Bird House birdhouse! And not just the birds, because in turn, these winged friends also make people very happy. So, Happy Birds and Happy You. Hang this beautiful house and spoil the birds and yourself :-). Ilse Bouwens was inspired by contemporary architecture. The roof, which protrudes into a point at the front, is particularly striking. It is made from a single piece of sturdy steel that, together with the base and one side wall, encloses the house. The house itself is made of sustainable bamboo. Designer Ilse chose Petrol Blue for the metal color. This neutral color contains shades of blue, green, and even gray. What immediately catches the eye about the Happy Bird House birdhouse is the asymmetrical placement of the entrance hole. A wooden perch is placed at the opening, where the birds can rest and fly in. The 3.2 cm entrance hole is suitable for small birds such as blue tits, great tits, and nuthatches. These birds don't just use the house to build a nest. They also like to shelter there in winter. So you can enjoy it all year round.

Happy Butterfly House
Make butterflies and yourself happy with this fantastic Happy Butterfly House. As soon as it gets colder (from around the end of September), butterflies like the Peacock and Brimstone go into hibernation. Because they don't hibernate as caterpillars or chrysalises, but simply as butterflies, these are the very first butterflies you see fluttering around in the early, warm spring. And let's be honest: who wouldn't be happy about that! These butterflies therefore seek shelter where they can survive the winter. Due to increasing urbanization, this is becoming increasingly difficult. So you can truly make these graceful insects happy with this beautiful Happy Butterfly House. If you like, fill the house with some dry leaves and fine twigs. Then their bed is made, and they'll feel even more at home! Ilse Bouwens was inspired by contemporary architecture. The projecting roof at the front is one of its striking features. It gives the Happy Butterfly House a modern look. The roof tapers forward into a point, creating a contemporary shelter. The Happy Butterfly House features a sustainable bamboo body with three slots at the front that serve as entrances. Sturdy metal surrounds the bamboo body, forming the walls, roof, and floor. Designer Ilse chose Petrol Blue for the metal. This neutral color incorporates shades of blue, green, and even gray.

Happy Bird Feeder
Make the birds happy with this beautiful Happy Bird House! And not just the birds, because it will make you happy too. So hang up this unique bird feeder and treat the birds and yourself :-). Ilse Bouwens was inspired by contemporary architecture. The roof at the front is a striking feature. It tapers to a point, forming a contemporary canopy. The way the openings are designed gives the bird feeder a stately, almost monumental character. The house is made of sustainable bamboo. Sturdy metal surrounds this bamboo house, forming the walls, roof, and floor. Designer Ilse chose Petrol Blue for the color. This neutral shade contains shades of blue, green, and even gray. This excellent bird feeder is perfect for small gardens or balconies. You can hang it on the wall in no time. Do you have a larger garden with trees? It will certainly fit there too 🙂 . The Happy Bird Feeder has two openings on the front. This makes it easy for birds to pop in, and the food can be quickly replenished. You can even place a fattening ball inside. To clean it, simply slide the bamboo feeder out of the metal sleeve.

Cactus | Bird & Feeder House
Cactus Bird & Feeder House The origin of the name Cactus Bird & Feeder House is clear: it is shaped like a cactus. It was designed in collaboration with Qualy from Thailand. As much as 50% of the material of the green cactus comes from recycled fishing nets from Thai fishermen. With this birdhouse, you are not only helping the birds but also the fish! The Cactus Bird & Feeder House has a very special feature. You can easily transform it from a nest box into a feeder house. Let us explain how it works. Use as a nest box: Hang the Cactus Bird & Feeder House on the wooden ring at the back. If you want to hang it on a tree, make sure the tree is thick enough to completely close off the back. The entrance hole is located on the green front side. It has a diameter of 3.4 cm and is suitable for birds such as the Sparrow, Nuthatch, Pied Flycatcher, and Redstart. Hang the Cactus around the end of March as a nest box, as interested birds will start orientating themselves. From October, or at least before the first frost, remove it from the wall and clean the inside thoroughly. You can then hang it back up as a birdhouse because birds also use it as a shelter in bad weather. The other option is to flip it around for use as a feeder house. Use as a feeder house: In autumn and winter, you can offer bird food in the Cactus Bird & Feeder House. Hang it up with the small entrance hole and the wooden ring facing forward. The ring holds the food in place. In addition to seeds, you can also put a suet ball in it if desired. If there is still a plastic net around the suet ball, remove it as birds can get entangled in it with their feet. So, you can enjoy the Cactus Bird & Feeder House all year round!

Tweet House
Meet The Tweet House 🐦 Great new bird design! With pride, we present Ilse's newest design for Heeej: the super cool Tweet House. This bird feeder consists of 2 Corten steel parts that are connected to each other by a white perforated panel. This creates 3 levels and gives it a playful character. The Tweet House is multifunctional: it has 2 little bowls in which you can offer seeds or water. On the roof, a special 'rooftop bar' for a fatball has been created. The nice thing is that you can now use the fatball without the polluting plastic net. The bird feeder stands on a very sturdy, thick black metal leg with an extra ground pin for even more stability. The bird feeder is made of durable corten steel. This is a very strong and weather-resistant steel, and the brown rust color is its most distinctive characteristic. The metal becomes more beautiful over time. Due to the ‘looks’ of the material and the shape of the house, it fits into any garden style. The Tweet House is a feast for the birds.

Leaf Me bird feeding dish - green
Nature was the main inspiration for the design of the Leaf me bird feeder. The striking and recognizable shape of the plane tree leaf challenged her to do something with it. By further stylizing the natural lines, the feeding bowl was created. Attach the robust Leaf me bird feeder to a tree, and the leaf blends seamlessly into nature, completing the circle. The Leaf me comes with an additional metal bowl that attaches with a magnet. This extra bowl comes flat, but you bend it into shape yourself very easily. A conscious decision was made to deliver it flat to keep the footprint of the Leaf me as small as possible. Use the Leaf me for a suet ball (without the net!), or use it to store fruit, seeds, mealworms, unshelled peanuts, or bird food. Rainwater can drain through the folds of the bowl and the grooves in the leaf veins. Hanging the feeding bowl allows birds to enjoy their meal more safely. This stylish bird feeder is also perfect for small gardens or balconies. You can hang it on a wall or fence in no time. Do you have a larger garden with trees? It's always a good fit there :-) . The Leaf Me bird feeder is the perfect gift. It's a sustainable alternative to, say, a bouquet of flowers. The gift will be remembered for a long time and contributes to biodiversity.
